Josep R. Cerdà

Playwright and theatre director. He has been Performing Arts officer for the Balearic Islands Government, director of the IEB, and director of the Teatre Principal de Palma

As a researcher, he published the Catalan version of El barber de Sevilla, translated by the scholar Vicenç Albertí and he has edited the volume 10 anys de teatre a Mallorca, by J. A. Mendiola.

As a director, he has premiered his own plays such as Calor, Fotos de Petra, Merceria, Més enllà de la mar and El mag de la platja, and the adaptations Un enemic del poble by Ibsen, L’oncle Vània by Txèkhov, Hamlet party, based on Shakespeare, Víctor i el monstre, based on Mary Shelley, and Amarg, by Rafel Gallego. Recently, he wrote and directed El mal germà, premiered at the Teatre de Barra and honoured with the awards for best text and best directing in 2024. In January 2025 he participated in the Balearic Islands Playwriting Tournament.

His latest play, L’arquitecte, received a creation grant from the IEB and, after premiering at the Teatre del Mar, it received the Jaume Damians Award and the Best Show Award from the Association of Public Theatres of the Balearic Islands 2025.
