Melena Androide

Andrea Martínez, known under the stage nickname Melena Androide, is a graduate of the ESAD in Murcia, with a Master’s Degree in Performing Arts Practice and Visual Culture from UCLM and the Reina Sofía Museum. She has also trained in Italy, Belgium and the Czech Republic, where she has received courses from companies and artists such as Claudia Castellucci, Àlex Serrano, El Conde de Torrefiel, Peeping Tom and Rimini Protokoll, among others.

She forms part of Las Toskas (1st Prize Creamurcia 2015) and Las Monstruas (Premio Edusí Proyecto Innovador), and has worked as a performer with El Conde de Torrefiel, Grandeza Studio and Angélica Liddell. In 2019 she presented the first part of a line of performing arts research heavily influenced by the internet, literature and video games called WOF, WOF, WOF, awarded a prize at the Festival Internacional de Escena Emergente ACT (Bilbao). In 2021 she won the 6th call for Autoría en Ultramar 2021 (Fundación Sgae and AVEET) with MIAU, MIAU, MIAU, nominated for Best New Show at the Premios Max 2023, published by Ediciones Sala Ultramar, and opening piece of the ACT Bilbao 2021, in which she was a jury member. In 2023, she received the IVC Stage Writing Creation Grant and was selected by the Resident Culture programme of the GVA Museum Consortium with the project GLUP, GLUP, GLUP and by the Creation Residencies of Carme Teatre. The piece is part of the Spanish Contemporary Authors Theatre Exhibition. In 2024, in the framework of the Ínsula Dramataria residency, she wrote Todo es verde, which is based on a short text by David Foster Wallace.

She combines creation with work as a technician, performer and artistic director of events.
