Last year, the playwright of Moroccan origin, but resident in Barcelona, Ahmed Ghazali, passed away. Ghazali was closely linked to the origins of the Obrador d’estiu, since he was in charge of coordinating the International Workshop in its first two editions.

On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the Obrador d’estiu in 2025, the Sala Beckett wishes to pay him tribute with a staged reading of his play El be i la balena, under the direction of Victoria Szpunberg.

Synopsis

In the middle of the Strait of Gibraltar, a Russian freighter collides with a boat carrying undocumented African immigrants. The sailors rescue the bodies but neither Spain nor Morocco will accept them. Thus begins a very long night of waiting and confrontation, during which Hassan and Hélène, a couple who as tourists who have decided to continue their journey on board, find themselves confronted with a drama that shakes their mixed marriage, which in turn becomes a reflection of the impossible relationship between North and South.
